Domestic Violence Outreach (DVO) works to end intimate partner violence (IPV) in communities throughout Illinois as well as nationally. A nonprofit organization, DVO works for our mission to raise awareness about IPV in all forms, connect victims with needed services and promote violence prevention through education. We strive for responsible and lasting social impact in all the with faith-based and non-religious communities that we serve.
Started by Father Charles Dahm, a Catholic priest and his parish in 2008, DVO was elevated in 2011 as a Ministry within the Archdiocese of Chicago and expanded to reach over 180 church communities in Illinois. DVO went on to form over 100 ministries by training appropriate church and community staff. Since 2018, DVO has implemented a youth education program, Dating Matters, in 16 public and private schools in Chicago. Developed by the US Centers for Disease Control, Dating Matters is an evidence-based curriculum for students in grades 6-8. This education program helps students recognize healthy and unhealthy relationships and effectively change their behavior. Highly regarded by students and faculty, Dating Matters is a successful tool for preventing violence and building a brighter future.
